Baseline Quotes begin at $3,000 USD and go up from there depending on specific requirements (materials, wood, electronics, finish etc). 22 frets maximum, flat neck (no radius) only. Everything is custom at this time. You can bring or ship your guitar to Toronto or send a fresh guitar to be modded, or have a custom one built by Mike after design specs are approved. This is a one-man operation and at this time everything is completely customized and bespoke at his Toronto shop. There is no large factory or mass production, Micheal does the whole process (handmade) with many unique tools that he built himself. It's an extremely small operation, like you would expect from a custom, hand-built instrument, and so cost is still high. No CNC yet. As much as guitarists and bassists would love a stock off the shelf Strat/Tele replacement neck, J or P Bass or Godin guitar neck, it's not that simple nor has the technology hasn't been scaled yet. Licensing to a company for production may be a possibility, but would take a lot of quality control parameters and training. In the meantime, here is some background so you can understand and appreciate the operation. If you are a company looking to license the tech, please contact us above.
Quotations begin at baseline $3,000 USD and vary based on specific requirements (materials, wood, electronics, finish etc). This may seem astronomical to the bassist or guitarist just looking for a cool gizmo for fretless. That is what the Guitar Flatter is for instance, or just having 2 instruments, or a double neck.
But as you probably already know, Magic Fret is much more than that--it's more of an ultimate solution. This is aimed at the serious player who wants a handmade quality invention, that provides unbelievable advantages you can't get without it. Pro guitarists involved in the fretless community have already shown extreme interest: Lionel Loeuke (guitarist for Herbie Hancock) owns 2 of these guitars- a LP electric and a custom 7-string nylon. Cenk Erdogan (Turkey) and Gabriel Marin (Consider the Source) have both played Elden Kelly's Godin Multiac with retrofit Magic Fret neck and are extremely enthusiastic, awaiting when their instruments will be ready.
Where has this been all my life? And why haven't I heard about it before?
One night a bass player said "what if?" and happened to have as a friend a mechanical engineer of legendary and exceptional skill. That was over 15 years ago, when Mikhail Chtchetinine, known as "Mike" or "Mikey" of Toronto began producing and developing this incredible invention. Patented in 2006, over 50 instruments have been produced, each handmade. In the last several years, new guitar designs and retrofit necks have been added to compliment our electric bass offerings.
